the Sheldon Theatre Brass Band
The Sheldon Theatre Brass Band was founded in 1989 as the resident performing ensemble at the newly restored, turn of the century T. B. Sheldon Theatre in Red Wing, Minnesota. We use the instrumentation of the traditional British Brass Band and play a broad variety of musical styles including original pieces for brass and percussion, marches, orchestral transcriptions, and unique arrangements for brass.
Jim Kurschner, Music Director
Jim Kurschner was named Music Director of the Sheldon Theatre Brass Band in January 2002. He recently retired from the music faculty at Normandale Community College in Bloomington, MN, culminating a 42-year career in Music Education. At Normandale, he conducted the Concert Band, taught Applied Saxophone, Music Appreciation, Jazz History, Class Piano, and various instrumental ensembles.
Mr. Kurschner holds degrees from the University of Wisconsin at River Falls and Northwestern University and is actively engaged as a pianist, saxophonist, conductor, and adjudicator throughout the United States.
